These wonderful infographics about reproductive health were recently released by The Guttmacher Institute, a foundation which aims to advance knowledge of reproductive health worldwide. They also bust myths surrounding abortion and reproductive health with this super amazing tool called “science.”
These infographics show the often sad realities of abortion in America — for many facing unintended pregnancy, it’s a nearly unattainable, expensive procedure with barriers that worsen for those who are in poverty or are people of color.

“The reality is that so-called pro-life movement is not about saving babies. It’s about punishing women for having sex. That’s why they oppose birth control. That’s why they want to ban abortion even though doing so will simply drive women to have dangerous back alley abortions. That’s why they want to penalize women who take public assistance and then dare to have sex, leaving an exemption for those who become pregnant from rape. It’s not about babies. If it were about babies, they would be making access to birth control widespread and free and creating a comprehensive social safety net so that no woman finds herself with a pregnancy she can’t afford. They would be raising money for research on why half of all zygotes fail to implant and working to prevent miscarriages. It’s not about babies. It’s about controlling women. It’s about making sure they have consequences for having unapproved sex.”
Safe abortions have always been available to the rich, Dan. You simply want to deny them to the poor, and if you succeed, poor woman will be forced to get them anyway. They’ll be forced into the alleys with hangers, plungers and vacuum cleaners, risking death or mutilation. But you’d like that, wouldn’t you, Dan? You sadistic, elitist, sexist, racist, anti-humanist pig!Saturday Night Live 3x18
This aired in 1978. Thirty-four years later, it’s still a fucking ~debate.
when men can’t imagine why women would want to have an abortion while trying to legislate whether women can have abortions.

This is one of the most offensive things I have ever seen. Ever. Anywhere.
How dare—
No. Deep breath. Not even going to engage this closed-minded, hate-filled, sanctimonious, childish rubbish. But knowing that the people who oppose my right to own my own body actually think this is how my mind works… Well. It always helps to know the enemy.
Incidentally, liking this post will only send kudos in the direction of the imbecile who created it. So, you know. Don’t.
I put good odds that imbecile will, within the next eight years, either be ranting about how her status as a mother excludes her from having to work, being challenged on her opinions or having any other social responsibilities… or be sneaking quietly into Planned Parenthood.
Part of the terror of this kind of ignorance is it highlights just how naive they are about the world and how poorly prepared they have been for reality.

New Hampshire Sheriff Candidate Says He’s Willing to Use Deadly Force to Stop Abortions
Republican candidate for Hillsborough County Sheriff, Frank Szabo, said today that he would arrest any doctor performing elective abortions in his jurisdiction. Further, he wouldn’t be opposed to using deadly force:
“I would respond specifically by saying that if someone is under threat, a full-grown human being, if they’re under threat, what should the sheriff do? Everything in their power to prevent them from being harmed,” he said.
When pressed about what he would do if he learned that a doctor was about to perform an elective abortion, Szabo replied he would do what it took to prevent that from happening.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Well, I would hope that it wouldn’t come to that, as with any situation where someone is in danger, but again, specifically talking about elective abortions and late-term abortions, that is an act that needs to be stopped.”
Even if the abortion was legal in the state of New Hampshire, Szabo says that as sheriff, he would not need to answer to any higher authority or public official.
While Szabo has no law enforcement background, he claims his business experience qualifies him for the job.
Are lots of fetuses making 911 calls these days?
I mean, I knew cell phone owning kids were getting younger and younger, but GEEZ.

How precisely does one go about arresting someone who isn’t doing anything illegal?
He doesn’t intend to arrest them. He intends to shoot them in the head under the guise of “deadly force” because they are a threat to fetuses.
You can’t arrest someone if you kill them.
I just want to reiterate something that I did not put in my original reblog: This guy is a terrorist and he is running for a position in which he would be given weapons and the authority to use them.
This man is a terrorist. His goal is to scare and threaten abortion providers up to the point of killing them in order to stop them from providing abortions.
He is a terrorist.
